Ace’s Picks: College Basketball Futures
It’s almost time for college basketball, which means it’s almost time for gambling on lower-level division one schools to cover when we don’t even know where they’re located. To get ready for the season, let’s take a look at five (there’s really only two) teams that have a chance to win the National Championship this season.
Duke is coming off the #1 recruiting class in the nation for the third year in a row, and their class is highlighted by three of the best freshmen in the entire class (RJ Barrett, Cameron Reddish, and Zion Williamson).
Duke will rely mostly on the freshmen class, but they also need major improvements from Javin DeLaurier, Alex O’Connell, and Marques Bolden for them to win it all.
Kentucky was able to sign four 5 Star Recruits (EJ Montgomery, Ashton Hagans, Keldon Johnson, and Immanuel Quickley). They also signed 4 Star Tyler Herro, who is apparently a volume scorer. Their biggest get of the off-season might be graduate transfer Reid Travis from Stanford who will be able to provide the veteran leadership that most Kentucky team’s lack, while still possibly being one of their better overall players.
Kentucky also has sophomore’s Quade Green, Nick Richards, and PJ Washington returning. Washington was considered a mid-first round pick by many last year, so look out for him to have a huge season for the Wildcats this year.
THESE ARE THE ONLY TWO TEAMS THAT I THINK HAVE A CHANCE TO WIN IT ALL.
It’d just be a cool story for them to win it all after being the #1 overall seed last year and losing to 16 seed UMBC in the first round. Remember, Virginia didn’t just get beat. They got BLOWN THE FUCK OUT.
I’m a Michigan fan, so duh I’m going to put them. Plus, John Beilein just had heart surgery and he’s still going to be ready by the first game of the year. If the team plays with at least half of his toughness this season, then I like the Wolverines’ chances. Plus, Charles Matthews is back (he’s good)
Tennessee has a player named Admiral Schofield. And he’s a fucking monster. Why would I not bet on a guy with the name Admiral?
