Rumor Mill : Yankees interested in Machado
Are the Baltimore Orioles (25-66) really considering trading the best short-stop in the league to a division foe? I’m here for it if they are.
If the off-season move of trading for Giancarlo Stanton wasn’t evident that the Yankees want to win right now, this is the icing on the cake. I think the Pinstripes had enough talent before adding Stanton to make a deep playoff run, but with the addition of the slugger, the Yankees are an October favorite.
What would this do to the Yankee lineup? Didi Gregorious is one of the better defensive shortstops in the league, and Machado made it very clear he does not want to play third base anymore. Gregorious is hitting .255, 15 HR, 48 RBI’s, where as Machado is hitting .309, 21 HR, 60 RBI’s.
It would definitely be an upgrade to the middle infield, but at what cost? Gleyber Torres is locked up said Cashman, and I’m pretty sure he feels the same way about June rookie of the month Miguel Andújar.
The Yanks definitely have a deep enough farm system to offer them a good deal, but is it worth having Machado for one year, and then have him sign elsewhere next year when his contract is up after the season, and losing 3 or 4 young stars in the making? Possibly. If the move was made, and Machado became a Yankee, they would become the clear favorite to win the World Series. Let’s get it rolling.
