Johnny Manziel Set to Make CFL Debut

According to Head Coach June Jones (yes, that June Jones), former Heisman Trophy Winner Johnny Manziel will be making his CFL Debut for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats tonight against the Toronto Argonauts. Manziel is set to take the 2nd team reps, as he is currently the backup to former Oregon and Ole Miss quarterback Jeremiah Masoli. Manziel will also be receiving more reps than he expected coming into today’s game due to injury of fellow backup Vernon Adams (Eastern Washington and Oregon).

Manziel has had almost two weeks to prepare for this game, and I’m sure it will be a tough adjustment trying to change from American Football to Canadian Football, since the dimensions of the field are different, there are different rules, and there’s a completely different playstyle.

I expect Manziel to have a decent performance tonight. I’m sure there’ll be some plays that’ll breakdown due to him not fully understanding the offense yet, which means hopefully we’ll get to see some vintage backyard Johnny Football type of plays.

I hope for nothing but the best of Johnny, since he is my favorite college football player of all-time. Hopefully tonight will be another positive step for #ComebackSZN.

Checkout Johnny and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on ESPN+ at 7:30 pm EST.
